The Secret of Seaweed

As a kid,  I thought of seaweed as slimmy and rather unpleasant.  I wouldn’t even get near it, let alone put it in my mouth. Who knew that many years later I would celebrate seaweed for its nutritional properties!  Many of you may enjoy seaweed as part of an occasional sushi experience, but have you thought of boosting your seaweed intake to build your nutritional foundation? 

Sea veggies, should be one of the building blocks of your nutritional foundation.  You may or may not know that many of our soils are depleted of nutrients due to over agriculture. Consequently, many of the veggies on grocery store shelves are depleted as well.  But guess what? All that nutrition from our soils has run off into the oceans. 

So  . . . we must turn to seaweed as a source of nutrition. This stuff is an incredibly rich source of vitamins, minerals and enzymes that are essential for a healthy body.  Seaweed snacks

Don’t worrry, this doesn’t mean sitting down a plate of slimmy green seaweed everyday. There are some simple ways to get seaweed into your diet. Curious?

Here some creative and tasty ways to add more seaweed into your diet:

a) Snack on it.  Nori snacks, seaweed crackes or rice cakes with seaweed are all easy ways to get more seaweed into your diet. They're also quick and tasty! You can find these at your local natural food store.  Sea veggies are also naturally salty so they’ll zap your salt cravings quickly.

b) Wrap it!  Why limit yourself to using nori paper only for wrapping rice and fish? You can use these as wraps for a variety of things. Try using nori sheets to wrap anything from veggies to BBQ chicken.  Get creative.  Nori sheets are easy to find in the Japanese section of most grocery stores.

c) Drink it! Check out your natural food store for liquid supplements with a seaweed base.  Skip the generic multi-vitamin supplements and go with seaweed supplements instead. This is a much more effective source of whole food nutrition and a great way to start the day!
